In COMPOSE I used to type the first letter of an email address in the "TO" line and his email would pop up...

In COMPOSE, when I would begin to type someone's address from my CONTACTS in the TO line, the entire email address would pop up below, and I could just click on that address to put the whole thing up on the TO line. Now it doesn't do that. I looked at a couple similar questions/answers, like clicking on the word TO, to no avail. Am I missing the obvious?

It still works the same way in the classic mail.
