My sister checked my work email without my knowledge, can press charges? It's not the first time she's done it

Emails are a primary way of communication in my workplace. She could have easily deleted an important email. My password can only be changed at a certain time of the year.

Legally, Yes you can but it would be vary hard to prove it. Go to the tech at your work and they can change your password. Alawys log out when you step away from your desk, Even For Just A Second.
Reply:well john i actualy write password policies for companies and let me tell you what works for one doesnt work for all. if there is no threat of intrusion then chaning passwords that often is more work for the it staff especially if the computers are off site seeing as it cant be effectively enforced also an 8 character password even if it were mixed lower and uppercase characters with numbers and symbols is exponentialy weaker then a 10-12 character password of all lower case letters, so often longer over complex is better.

however usualy password policies have exception clauses that would state in a necesity it can be changed i am sure the yearly settings is simply the mandatry date for the company. so you must simply change your password becuase unless the email documents are protected by federal law or your office is and has surveilance you cant sue your sister.
Reply:Why in the world would you want to completely destroy a family relationship for, potentially, the rest of your life? Over what?! A computer-related issue? Ask yourself is it really worth it to go that far? Please consider the grand scheme of things? Do you really want to risk being potentially ostracized from the rest of your family over this? Seriously consider the weight of your actions before you rush into something like this. Honestly, I shouldn't even have to say all this. You should be mature enough to deal with this in a more effective and less demeaning nature. Obviously your security implementation for your computer is up for debate here. Your password can only be changed at a certain time of the year? Why in the world is your company only changing your password yearly?! Our company requires a password change every 90 days. My last company was every 45 days. And yes, the password policy prevented us from using such things as "mydogspot". At least 2 special characters and letters that don't match something in the dictionary is a good start. Additionally, something that's at least 8 characters long which includes letters, numbers and special characters.

I use this website to generate random passwords:

I then use this utility to manage them all for me:

I would highly recommend you put something in place that's more robust if your sister could check your email so easily.

Reply:I go along with John on this.

A low tech solution would be to get a tiny little dog that lives under your desk.

Woop it one with her shoe and that way, any time she comes within 5mtrs of your desk wearing those shoes she'll need another rabies shot.

(Joking)
Reply:nope, just do not let her near your work place again.
